Committee for Anti-Racism and Equity
CARE of CAL-ACAP is focused on improving racial justice and equity in child psychiatry through advocacy, education, access to care, diagnostic practices, and research. CARE strives to educate and empower clinicians, legislators and families in the areas of social determinants of youth mental health and evidence-based practices, with the goal of improving outcomes for marginalized communities.
CARE reviews policies, procedures, and actions within CAL-ACAP with an anti-racist and equity lens and provides recommendations to the CAL-ACAP Executive Committee (EC).
CARE works with a legislative advocate to review and create statewide bills, policies, amendments, budget allocations, and regulations using an anti-racist and equity lens to advocate for racial justice. The committee provides monthly bill recommendations to the EC.
Yanni Rho, MD, MPH, is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist and . Psychiatry Director at UC Berkeley Student Health Services and is the psychiatric primary care consultant with the Behavioral Health Collaborative Care Team. She is also a Clinical Professor in the UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences where she is a consultant with the Cal-MAP program (California Child and Adolescent Mental Health Access Portal).
Dr. Rho obtained her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Texas and her child, adolescent, and adult psychiatric training with Harvard-affiliated training programs. She also obtained her Master of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, furthering her commitment to improving systems and the lives of the individuals within them, specifically advocating for prevention of illness while focusing on increasing the agency and capacity of our children, their families, and the providers/systems that support them through a culturally inclusive and equitable lens.
Dr. Aneja is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who completed her training at Johns Hopkins University, where she also worked as an Assistant professor for several years treating children with Autism, genetic and developmental disorders. Amongst her various Leadership roles, she has served as the Statewide Medical Director for the Georgia Department of Human Services, overseeing the use of psychotropic medications among foster children. She helped standardize Georgia’s statewide informed consent process while collaborating with multiple stakeholders and advocating for equitable access to Trauma focused and mental health services for marginalized populations. She has also served as the Chief Psychiatrist at the largest inpatient psychiatric facility within the California Correctional System continuing to advocate for quality patient care for their vulnerable population. She had also obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology furthering her dedication to enhancing healthcare systems while promoting culturally sensitive services. In addition to being well published, she has been awarded Distinguished Fellowship awards by both the American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry for her extensive public service.
